TfL 'Project Guardian' Workshops

Year 9 Students Experience the TfL 'Project Guardian' Workshops

On 29th April 2019, our Year 9 students took part in 'Project Guardian' workshops delivered by the school team at Transport for London. The workshops were focused on helping students to recognise and report sexual harassment on public transport and they link directly with the campaign The Halley Academy Social Action Group are currently working on. Students were also taught empowering exit strategies to support them whilst travelling on public transport.

You may be surprised to hear that a survey conducted by Transport for London (TfL) in 2013 found that 10% of people had experienced unwanted sexual behaviour on or around public transport, but that 90% of them had not reported it. The aim of the ‘Report it to Stop it’ campaign is to improve levels of reporting of sexual offences, and to create an environment on public transport that does not tolerate intimidation and sexual harassment.

The workshops aimed to support our students in feeling confident on their journey and know exactly where to turn to if they need help.

If you experience anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, you can report it by text or phone.

What can I report?

Unwanted sexual behaviour is anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. You can report anything of a sexual nature and you don't have to prove that it was a criminal offence or intentional to report it, TfL can investigate that for you.

Call 101 or British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40. In an emergency call 999.

Or text 61016 -  text what, where and when. You'll receive a reply within 24 hours and your assigned officer will be there to help you through the process.
