An elite Halley Basketball Academy has been formed through the success of the National and International Schools’ Basketball Programmes. Primarily the academy caters for Sixth Form students from the age of 16 to 19. However, girls and boys aged 11 to 16 will be able to tap into numerous opportunities through the Halley Basketball Academy and the players.
Our coach is Joel Moore and he runs the Halley Basketball Academy. He has a wealth of experience spanning 40 years in basketball as a professional player and coach. He has coached at various universities and academies for the past 20 years and is a Basketball Tutor for England Basketball.
Joel was 17 and the youngest person to play for the England Men’s team. He played 60 times for England and was Great Britain Captain for four years. Joel has two Commonwealth Gold Medals and retired whilst one of the top players in the country.
As part of the Halley Basketball Academy we hope to make students well-rounded, disciplined individuals before they leave The Halley Academy and, for the lucky few that develop their basketball skills further, there are various opportunities:
The Basketball Academy has top links with some of the biggest basketball clubs in Europe, such as Germany, Belgium and France. We also have links to “Under 21” Academies, which in turn have professional links in Holland and Belgium alongside strong and successful connections with several American Universities.
As a student in England, there are also scholarship opportunities at the University of East London and South Bank University.
